💌 LA Shows and Events: July 29th - Aug 5th
Thank you for subscribing to and reading Ensemble LA! It’s so exciting to see so many people reading and celebrating LA’s creative and scrappy theatre and art scene each week with me.
Please share with anyone creative in LA, anyone in a show, and anyone wanting to see shows. ✨
Happy Monday!
Despite growing up in the UK, I only just discovered Noël Coward in the last few weeks: I got tickets to see the NT Live screening of Present Laughter, starring Andrew Scott. I cannot recommend that production highly enough: my wife and I were laughing our heads off the entire time. The writing sparkles through some very strong performances (particularly Scott’s), as this gorgeous play bounces between the protagonists’s hilarious narcissism and devastating pathos. (My wife, who is currently rehearsing the role of Richard II, took a lot of inspiration from this character!)
I am excited to dive more into Coward’s repertoire. I spent some time this week researching his biography and am fascinated by everything I read. It’s suggested he fed a lot of his own experiences into Blithe Spirit and Present Laughter in particular, which I can absolutely see.
Happily, I found out a live production of one of his plays is showing at the Odyssey Theatre right now, so I look forward to catching that, too!
Thank you for indulging me and my Noël Coward journey!
Let’s get into the very exciting shows and creative things happening this week. Here are the LA events you shouldn’t miss!
