🌳 LA Theatre and Events: Aug 12th - Aug 19th

Thank you for subscribing to and reading Ensemble LA! It’s so exciting to see so many people reading and celebrating LA’s creative and scrappy theatre and art scene each week with me.

Please share with anyone creative in LA, anyone in a show, and anyone wanting to see shows.

Happy Monday! 🦊

Last night, I finally got to catch Independent Shakespeare’s As You Like It: it was lovely to enjoy a picnic in such a beautiful part of Griffith Park and get transported to the Forest of Arden.

They’re in a temporary location this year, a bit further into the park, and I thought it was the perfect setting for this play. I really enjoyed how they capitalized on the differences in this space. Actors had to travel quite a long way from backstage to the playing space, and instead of shying away from that, they leaned in, having characters enter while another scene was in progress and showing us their moment before. It gave the performance a very seamless feeling.

I also admired their use of the audience: Orlando filled the trees with poetry right beside me, Touchstone flirted with one picnicker, and a few challengers got to try their luck against Charles, the unbeatable wrestler.

It’s on until September if you want to catch it!

And with that, on to the rest of the things you shouldn’t miss this week!

P.S. If you want to submit your own event for this newsletter, fill in this form or DM me on our Instagram page!
